Meet Ms. Kuhlow

Chelsea Kuhlow is a music educator currently teaching in the Burlington, WI area. Kuhlow has previously taught in Milwaukee, WI, Whitewater, WI and Janesville, WI.  Chelsea graduated from University of Wisconsin - Whitewater in 2015 and received her Bachelor's Degree in Instrumental and General Music Education.  Before coming to Whitewater, she graduated with honors from Clinton High School in Clinton, WI and then went on to receive her Associates Degree from the University of Wisconsin – Rock County, May, 2012.  Chelsea has studied flute under Mrs. Anne Harsevoort and Ms. Kay Schultz of Clinton, WI, Dr. Amy VanDeuren of Madison, WI,  Dr. Robin Fellows at UW-Whitewater and composition with Dr. Jeff Herriott also at UW-Whitewater.

Chelsea grew up in a small town in southern Wisconsin and was exposed to a variety of musical genres early on.  Everyone in her family loves music and plays a variety of instruments.  This creative environment allowed Kuhlow to explore her love for music.  Throughout her youth, she was involved in plays, musicals, singing groups, showchoirs, and bands. Her involvement in these groups ranged from singing to playing instruments to choreographing dances. Chelsea began playing flute in 5th grade.

Kuhlow was an active flutist and vocal performer during high school and college playing with many ensembles including UW-Whitewater’s SONICT ensemble for new and improvised music.  Along with playing the flute, Kuhlow has stayed active as a vocalist both in chamber groups and as a solo performer. Kuhlow continues to performs as a soloist as well as a chamber musician with local groups with emphasis on improvised and new music.

Over the last decade, Chelsea has developed a thriving private lesson studio teaching many instruments, composition, and basic music development to students of all ages. In addition, she has worked to develop a successful public music program in a rural southeastern Wisconsin school district by consistently working to provide opportunity to the students.

In addition to being a music teacher and musician, Chelsea is also a farm owner and entrepreneur.  She is the founder and president of Kuhlow Girls Showpigs based out of Janesville, WI. She raises pigs and sells them both locally and nationally to 4-H members to show in their county and state fairs.  Chelsea also shows pigs herself at national shows and conferences across the United States.  Her company is quickly becoming well-known throughout the industry as one of the best in the state of Wisconsin.
